I'm very glad to work in a sector where none of this bullshit is needed. The potential employer tells me what the job pays - I decide whether to apply based on that. They're not employing me for a job as a negotiator, so why should my salary be based on how good I am at negotiating?

Have definitely been making these mistakes, especially not negotiating. Thank you for the tips

No. 3 works in many situations. About 15 years ago, a developer (housing, not software!) bought the property next to mine. He made 4 lousy offers for parts of my property (different parts each time). For the last offer:

Him: I need a decision soon!

Me: In that case, no.

Someone needs to give classes like Toastmasters, but about when to shut up. 🤫 🤐

(I’ve interviewed more than half a dozen college grads in the past fortnight. Seriously, it’s OK to not have any questions. Asking silly questions just to have questions asked is just dumb after saying: “I haven’t really thought about it. I guess I should have. Heh. Heh.” Proceeding to ramble on after that isn’t a good look. 🧐)

This has been my greatest nightmare as an engineer. Sometimes it happens because of the norm in my country, they will always pick the least in-terms of the salary expectations.
