Planning is a social activity that makes us feel like we are constructive and connected. Following a plan is a quality activity that makes us feel like we are working. Most employees have a preference for one of these, and it ain't the latter.

No plan survives first contact with the enemy. But we waste time doing it anyway to justify the existence of people who can’t actually do the work.

Actually that's a realistic goal. At my job they want to plan for the next 5 years...no need to tell how is it going so far...;)
