We had a team change an interface without warning, which threw other teams into chaos. They held a meeting on Friday afternoon to discuss it. Unfortunately, the team making the change said it was necessary for safety reasons, so the other teams would just have to accommodate this unplanned work.
My boss estimated that it would probably take 6-8 man weeks, and that was if he had a person to put on it, which he didn't.
The other team's manager's reaction was "It's okay, there's no rush. Monday morning is fine".
Sometimes managers say things that you just have to wait a minute to see whether they're just trying to get a reaction, or they are actually serious. He was serious.
